Come to the St. Laurent Co-op Rec Centre on March 7 at 7 p.m. in support of their inaugural CFRY Amateur Radio Talent Night. Performer registration remains open until March 1. The Rec Centre is also hosting a community spaghetti dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. ahead of the show

From singers and musicians to performers of all ages, the evening promises to spotlight the hidden talents that call St. Laurent and surrounding communities home — all while raising funds for much-needed upgrades to the beloved community hub.

“We have a quite a bit of local talent to share and are looking to make some upgrades to our facility,” Cailey Anderson, St. Laurent Rec Centre board member said. “It’s an opportunity for our community to get out and enjoy the evening.”

The show begins at 7 p.m., with 11 acts already registered and more welcome to sign up be-fore the March 1 deadline by calling or texting 204-280-0281. Performers young and old are in-vited to take the stage with any act suitable for radio with cash prizes being awarded to the top three contestants. decided by a panel of judges.

For Anderson and the board, the event is about more than applause. It’s about preserving and improving a space that serves as a cornerstone for local gatherings, events and recreation.

“Anything we can do to bring in more activity to our community helps,” she added.

The Rec Centre is in need of general upgrades after several years with limited improvements. Renovated washrooms, fresh paint and updated flooring are among the projects being consid-ered —changes that would enhance the experience for everyone who walks through the doors.

Admission to watch the show is free, and organizers expect the evening to run approximately three hours, depending on the number of acts. For those unable to attend in person, the entire show will also be broadcast live on CFRY 920 AM beginning at 7 p.m.

Listeners tuning in from home can call during the broadcast to pledge their support for a fa-vourite act. Donations can be sent by e-transfer to stlreccentre@gmail.com or dropped off at the Rec Centre by cash or cheque.

Ahead of the show, a community spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m., giving residents a chance to gather before the curtain rises. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children and free for kids under five. The meal includes spaghetti, garlic bread and a drink, with gluten-free options available. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the RM of St. Laurent office or at the door.

The canteen and cash bar will also be open throughout the evening.

Local businesses are invited to get involved as well. Sponsorship packages start at $50 and all packages include two weeks of advertising on CFRY radio along with recognition during the event.

As anticipation builds, Anderson hopes the evening will not only raise funds but also celebrate the spirit of the community.

“We’re excited to witness the hidden talents our municipality and beyond brings,” she said.
