Representatives from all municipalities as well as MP James Bezan, MLA Jeff Wharton, MLA Richard Perchotte and Premier Wab Kinew to speak
It’s that time of year again when the Selkirk Biz, which represents businesses in Selkirk, St. Andrews, St. Clements, East St. Paul, and West St. Paul, gets our local leaders together all in one place to talk about the region. The Selkirk Biz is hosting its State of the Region event, and updates come from every corner of the area, as well as our local provincial and national leadership.

“(It’s) an annual event that brings together local leaders, businesses, and community members to discuss key issues, achievements, and future developments across our region. It provides valuable insight into local governance, economic growth, and community initiatives while creating opportunities for meaningful connection,” said Meaghan Chromy, Executive Director of the Selkirk Biz
As in past years, our leaders will give an update from all levels of government. The current line, up as of press time on April 13, includes MP James Bezan, MLA Jeff Wharton, MLA Richard Perchotte and Premier Wab Kinew, along with representatives from the Rural Municipality of St. Clements, St. Andrews, East St. Paul, West St. Paul and The City of Selkirk.
“Presentations will focus on regional development, economic growth, infrastructure projects, and updates on policies impacting businesses and residents,” said Chromy.
This is a great opportunity for local business leaders as well as local residents to be able to see all these leaders together in one room and get their takes on the region at a time when they are focused both on updating and listening to the concerns of our local business community.
“Attending offers business owners the opportunity to connect directly with decision-makers, gain insight into upcoming economic trends and policies, and network with fellow entrepreneurs. It’s a valuable setting to build relationships, explore partnerships, and stay ahead of regional developments,” said Chromy.
She explained that it’s just as important for businesses to stay connected to what’s happening politically in the region that may affect them as it is for individual residents.
“Political decisions directly impact the business environment—from regulations and taxation to infrastructure and funding opportunities. Staying informed helps business owners adapt, plan strategically, and advocate for their needs within the community,” said Chromy.
As in previous years, the event is going to be a little bit educational, but there will also be opportunities for questions, as well as a great chance for attendees to network with each other and our leadership. The format includes speaking time from each representative as well as time for questions and answers. The event is also hosted at Gaffer’s Restaurant and Lounge in Lockport, so attendees can look forward to lunch as well.
Chromy explained that the plan is to have attendees come away with a lot from the event.
“We hope attendees leave feeling informed, connected, and inspired—equipped with a clearer understanding of where our region is headed and how they can play a role in its growth and success,” she said.
The State of the Region takes place on April 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are available now and are $45.00. To reserve your spot, please contact info@selkirkbiz.ca.
Chromy hopes to see you there.
“This is your opportunity to hear directly from regional leaders, gain valuable insights, and connect with the business community. Events like this help shape the future of our region—don’t miss your chance to be part of the conversation,” she said.
