A 24-year-old man from Lake St. Martin First Nation is facing multiple firearms-related charges following a search warrant execution by Gypsumville RCMP.
Police said officers first responded to a firearms complaint in the community on April 11 at about 1:40 a.m. RCMP allege a man threatened a community member with bear spray while in possession of a handgun.
The suspect was not immediately located and an arrest warrant was later issued for Brayden McKay, 24, of Lake St. Martin First Nation.
As part of the investigation, Gypsumville RCMP obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence in Lake St. Martin First Nation on May 3, with assistance from the RCMP Manitoba East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team and General Investigative Section.
Police said McKay was arrested without incident inside the residence.
During the search, officers seized a sawed-off rifle, ammunition, a BB gun, parts of a dismantled firearm and what police described as possible drugs.
McKay has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition without a licence, possession of a firearm without a licence knowing its possession was unauthorized, unlawful storage of a firearm and possession of ammunition contrary to an order.
He remains in custody.
Gypsumville RCMP continue to investigate.
