The Boyne Lodge in Carman now boasts some automatic door openers that the Boyne Lodge Campus Charity recently donated.
Now that spring is here, the residents of Boyne Lodge can enjoy the great outdoors more easily thanks to automatic door openers on the doors leading out to the balconies and patios of each Lodge house.
The installation of the door openers was made possible by the collective efforts of the Boyne Lodge Campus Charity, the Carman Area Foundation, and the Carman Health Auxiliary, all of whom are integral parts of our community.
“There is a wealth of research pointing to the benefits for seniors in long-term care settings in getting outside to enjoy nature,” said Kelly Seward, Chair of the Boyne Lodge Campus Charity Inc. “We are particularly blessed by the beautiful setting of the Lodge alongside the Boyne River and close to King’s Park and the Golf Course, all of which provide abundant green space to enjoy.”
Helen Hoeppner, Manager of Health Services at Boyne Lodge, points to some additional benefits, “The automatic door openers have been a wonderful addition to the resident homes. They allow the residents to be more independent in gaining access to the outdoor patios, where many residents enjoy sitting now that we are seeing warmer weather. The door openers also have assisted staff in transporting residents in and out of these areas with ease. We are very thankful to Boyne Lodge Campus Charity for designating donated funds to this project.”
The door openers have been installed in all eight houses in the new Boyne Lodge, as well as the two renovated houses on the top floor of the original Boyne Lodge.
“This was a significant investment on the part of the Boyne Lodge Campus Charity,” said Seward. “Funds came from the estate of Cecil Jordan through a generous donation to BLCC from Cecil Jordan’s family to enhance the lives of the residents of Boyne Lodge. We were grateful to get extra support from the Carman Area Foundation and the Carman Health Auxiliary. All three of our organizations rely on community donations to continue our efforts of supporting projects like this one.”
