LemonAda stand: cooling off for a cause

Date:

The spirit of giving is alive and well, especially among the young. Three friends, Ada Pennelton, Audrey Moeller-Gates, and Ada Ellison, took a stand—literally and launched “LemonAda,” eager to support The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

On Saturday, one of Quarry Days’ busiest days, the girls set up their drink stand, determined to raise funds by selling cherry Kool-Aid, lemonade, and iced tea to the bustling passersby making their way down Main Street.

Ellison had done a lemonade stand at a garage sale and raised a lot of money. When she thought about how busy Quarry Days is, she decided it would make the perfect opportunity to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital. So, Ellison and Pennelton talked a lot and planned things out with help from the adults around them.

Each cup was priced at $2, and lemonade was the most popular.

“A lot of people said ‘keep the change,’” Ellison reflected on the generosity she witnessed. The girls offered free Children’s Hospital stickers and tattoos with every purchase.

After the girl’s hard work from noon to 6 p.m., they raised $865 for their cause. They are proud of themselves for their endeavours and are happy to give back to other kids. Ellison is looking forward to hosting many more lemonade stands in the future.
