Altona’s Downtown Summer Kick-Off returns July 5-6

Date:

Get ready for a whirlwind of excitement as Altona’s Downtown Summer Kick-Off makes a big return.

From thrilling rides to mouthwatering carnival treats, laughter, and good old-fashioned fun, this event promises to be a highlight on everyone’s summer calendar.

Mark your calendars for July 5-6, when the festivities kick off from noon until 11 p.m. and the heart of Altona will come alive with vibrant colours, joyful screams, and the unmistakable scent of cotton candy.

“People can enjoy rides, carnival treats and all kinds of fun activities,” says economic development officer Stephanie Harris.

“We’re thrilled to once again team up with Wonder Shows. This marks our sixth year collaborating with them to create an unforgettable midway experience. It all started when they reached out to us, asking if we’d join forces to bring this event to our community. We saw it as a great opportunity to host the event downtown and bring people into our business district. Especially for our retail and restaurant sectors.”

She adds, “We were also lucky enough to partner with the Altona Mall, as well as Rhineland Car and Access Credit Union to utilize their parking lots. The Town has been great with facilitating street closures during the event. It’s always been a collaborative partnership to help make this work.

“It’s an incredible way to launch summer. Grad is done. Kids are out of school. It’s just a great way to celebrate,” Harris says. “You’ll see fun for all ages. You’ll see smaller rides and activities for little ones, and bigger rides for teens and adults. It’s nice to be able to have an event that people of all ages can enjoy.”

While there may be a few snack trucks provided by Wonder Shows, Harris says the restaurants in the area do very well during these two days.

“Businesses really enjoy having this on their doorstep.”

And even if they’re not in the downtown district, she encourages other businesses to set up their own venues to sell their products.

“We’ll have a lot of downtown traffic, so it’s a good idea to take advantage of that. It’s a great opportunity for exposure with visitors from out of town, as well. And the Altona Mall has always been willing to help anyone with all the logistics of setting something up.”

At the end of the day, it’s all about kicking back and welcoming another busy and exciting summer season.

“This is a very exciting event for the community. We’re always thrilled when Wonder Shows is willing to come back and do this for us. It’s a great event that the community looks forward to, it’s a great way to drive business to our downtown centre and launch another awesome summer in Altona.”
