Manitoba High School Rodeo coming to Miami from Sept. 21-22

Date:

The excitement is building as the Manitoba High School Rodeo gallops into Miami on Sept. 21-22. Buckle up for a weekend filled with thrilling competitions and local talent showcasing their skills at the Miami Ag Grounds. These senior and junior high school competitors promise to provide a fantastic experience for rodeo fans of all ages, especially with hometown heroes Morgan Turner and Alana McCarthy taking center stage.

Turner is graduating grade 12 from Miami School this year, this being her final year competing in the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association and her last Miami High School Rodeo. Turner has been volunteering with the Miami Ag Society her whole life and is very excited to be able to help host the event and compete in front of her family and hometown.

She will compete in Barrel Racing, Goat Tying, Pole Bending and Breakaway Roping.

“I love rodeoing in Miami because it is my hometown,” said Turner. “Come out and support the Miami Ag Society and all the junior and high school rodeo contestants.”

Grade 11 student, Miami’s Alana McCarthy will compete in Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Team Roping and Goat Tying. She recently went down to Rock Springs, Wyoming, to compete at Nationals and was also at the 2024 Canadian High School Rodeo.

Other local entrants at the Manitoba High School rodeo include Carman’s Jill Goff, who has been rodeoing for four years. She competes in the Breakaway, Barrel Racing, Team-roping, Pole Bending, and Trap Shooting.

“I love rodeoing in Miami because of the great fairgrounds and lovely people,” said Goff. “Please come support the high school rodeo and watch.”

St. Claude’s Abigail Parvais has been competing in Manitoba High School Rodeo for three years, and this is her final year. The events that she competes in are Barrel Racing, Goat Tying, and Pole Bending.

“Miami Rodeo is one of my favourite rodeos of the year,” said Parvais. Parvais would like to thank the Miami Ag Society and all of their volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication that goes into this event to make it such a success. I look forward to seeing everyone at the rodeo.

Rodeo action will begin at 10 a.m. each day at the upcoming Manitoba High School Rodeo and includes bareback, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, barrel racing, pole bending, chute dogging, steer riding and ribbon roping.

“The Miami Ag Society is excited to put on this rodeo for the youth of Manitoba,” said Miami Ag Society secretary Heather Turner. “Come out and watch the up-and-coming rodeo kids.”
