New mural being painted at Carman MCC

Date:

The Carman MCC Thrift Shop, located at 11 Centre Ave W in Carman, is currently in the process of having a new mural painted on the side of their building.

A couple of years ago, the MCC decided that the east wall of its store needed new paint.

“Two of our members had been in Winnipeg and had seen a mural on a Thrift Store there, and that began a discussion about whether we should do something like that,” said Linda Enns, vice president of the Carman MCC Thrift Shop.

Last spring, they had the wall painted with a colour for the background of a mural and had someone agree to paint the mural, but they had run out of time last year. Work has started back up on the mural and it should be completed as soon as the weather cooperates.

“We contacted a local fellow, who had also painted a wall at the Carman Elementary School some time ago and said he’d love to do this. He got some info from us about what to include and gave us ideas and a drawing which we worked at, and he perfected.”

The new mural will include pictures of people using items that they’ve purchased at our store, including things like puzzles, clothing, sewing notions, books, furnishings, etc. And features people of different ethnic backgrounds.

In addition to the new mural, Enns notes that there’s some new donations to the store that are available for sale.

“With people spring cleaning these days, it’s always exciting to see what is being donated to our store,” said Enns. “From the usual items to the antiques. We are also in the midst of converting to a scanning price system called Shopify, which will be very helpful once we get it in place.”
