Two men are facing multiple drug and weapons charges after a late-night traffic stop on Highway 2 led to the seizure of a loaded handgun and suspected cocaine and methamphetamine.
According to Manitoba RCMP, officers with the Roving Traffic Unit initiated the stop at about 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 14 within the RM of South Cypress-Glenboro. The vehicle had two occupants.
During the interaction, an officer observed a controlled substance in plain sight along with a prohibited weapon, police said. Both occupants were arrested.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded handgun, approximately two kilograms of a substance believed to be cocaine, several grams believed to be methamphetamine and additional prohibited weapons.
Tyler Thorvaldson, 29, of Carman, and Kyle Tkachyk, 43, of Elm Creek, have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a loaded prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm and careless use of a firearm.
Thorvaldson was also issued tickets for operating a vehicle equipped with a radar detection device and for having open liquor in the vehicle.
Both accused were remanded into custody.
