A long-time Lundar Community Resource Council, Inc. (LCRC) board member was celebrated last week as she retired.
On Thursday, March 29, LCRC honoured Vivian Jeffery with an afternoon tea for her over 25 years as a member and treasurer of the LCRC board.
“She is one special lady who has volunteered her time over these 25 years demonstrating expertise and knowledge in carrying out her role as treasurer of our charitable organization,” said Patty Johnson, LCRC secretary. “But also, has done so with passion and caring for clients, community, and those she has worked with on the LCRC Board, coordinators, and supporters.”
During her speech, Johnson called Jeffery’s dedication over the years inspiring for others. She said when Jeffery started as treasurer after stepping up to take on the role, she was “proficient in looking after all aspects” of the board’s finances.
“Telling us when it was OK to make improvements or take on a major project and telling us to stop spending money…all this and doing the books by hand,” said Johnson. “I think that has become a lost art nowadays.”
Johnson went on to call Jeffery selfless and passionate about helping to make LCRC the best it can be. She said it’s not about the time for volunteers, it’s about the heart — and she said Jeffery has a big one.
Johnson ended her speech by thanking Jeffery for her unwavering dedication her 28 years with the board. Jeffery was celebrated that afternoon at the New Horizons Club in Lundar. LCRC president Irene Danielson could not attend the day’s festivities but sent her wishes and toast in the speech Johnson read. Rural Municipality of Coldwell Reeve Virgil Johnson participated in the tea and brought greetings, along with past senior resource coordinator Cindy Thorkelson, who reminded everyone of Jeffery’s many volunteer hours dedicated to the board that afternoon.
The afternoon was beautiful, complete with Jeffery, her family, past and present board members, and community members. At the tea, Jeffery was presented with a plant, gift cards, and personal thanks from everyone in attendance at her tea. Everyone spent the afternoon reminiscing, chatting, and enjoying goods and refreshments after the few formalities of the event.
A plaque in Jeffery’s honour will be placed on a bench in the park between the New Horizons Club and the museum, and her name and years of service will be outlined on it.
