Residents, fishers to present to Gimli council to discuss sewage lagoon

Date:

RM of Gimli residents and Lake Winnipeg commercial fishers are forming a delegation and will be presenting to Gimli council next week on a proposed sewage lagoon they say will further pollute Lake Winnipeg.

The delegation will discuss the proposed lagoon that the Harbour Hutterite colony in Armstrong wants to build on the Armstrong-Gimli border, according to one of the delegates, and involvement by higher levels of government.

The delegates are encouraging the public to attend the meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 at 10 a.m.

The lagoon is yet to be approved by the provincial government. The Manitoba Clean Environment Commission just wrapped up a hearing last week in Fraserwood to hear public submissions with regard to the lagoon. The CEC will be forwarding its recommendations to the province.
