The Arborg Hotel’s “New Year, New Vibes” six-week music series to connect community

Date:

With a new owner, an events coordinator and a song in its heart, the Arborg Hotel is getting set to bring the community together with a six-week music series starting in the new year.

The hotel’s “New Year, New Vibes” six-week music series will connect the community through free live musical performances from established performers and local talent.

Every Friday night, visitors can enjoy free classic country, rock, jazz or blues performances.

Balbir Mann, who’s the new owner of the Arborg Hotel and its sister hotel the Travelling Inn on Highway 68, said the Friday night music series is intended to connect people, create a welcoming atmosphere and make the hotel a hub for live music, featuring Manitoba-grown talent.

“Our goal is to create more than just a night out – we want to build a space where people can connect, celebrate and feel at home,” said Mann. “Live music every Friday night is just the beginning of our commitment to making the Arborg Hotel a hub for community connection and shared experiences.”

The Arborg Hotel offers 10 guest suites that are furnished with “attention to detail,” are pet-free and include satellite television, free Internet, fridge, microwave and an in-room safe. The hotel has a lounge, outdoor patio and offers meals.

Mann said he’s committed to creating an “inclusive environment” where everyone feels welcome during musical performances, comedy shows or fundraisers. And he wants to work with other community groups and businesses to host their events.

“We want to work with community groups and businesses to host events that not only entertain, but also give back, strengthening the relationships that make small towns like ours so special,” said Mann.

Samantha Hampton of Creative Community Promotion is the Arborg Hotel’s events & community engagement coordinator.

She said Mann wants to bring a “fresh rhythm to town” with the six-week music series, which will include featured performers such as Jesse Ross Genaille from Swan River, a celebrated artist with a classic country sound and who’s currently ranked No. 22 on the Indigenous music charts, as well as local talent.

“Performers like Jesse are willing to drive four hours each way to experience Arborg, and there’s a reason for that,” said Hampton. “This small town, known for its rich sense of community and vibrant spirit, offers something truly unique. From the charm of its local establishments to the warmth of its people, it is my hope that Arborg is ready to embrace a fresh, exciting music scene that will bring people together like never before.”

In addition to weekly music performances, the hotel is hosting other events including International Day of Education on Jan. 24 with a tailored event for educators. Teachers and other educational staff can unwind with live music and happy-hour specials in honour of their dedication to teaching.

“Being in a bar doesn’t have to be about the party. Sometimes, it’s just about experiencing a change of scenery and a different set of four surrounding walls,” said Hampton. “That’s why I’ve started the music earlier to cater to everyone, creating a space that feels inviting and inclusive. I’m committed to making as many adjustments as needed until we find that sweet spot — a room filled with people smiling, connecting and genuinely enjoying the experience.”

Beyond the music, Hampton said the Arborg Hotel is aiming to become a “go-to spot for fundraisers and private events. The hotel can customize catering and venue rental options.

And if the music series is a hit, the hotel plans to expand the offerings to include larger bands and bigger events at its sister location, The Travelling Inn, said Hampton.

As a small-town business owner, Mann he appreciates the support of the Arborg and area community. That support enables small businesses like his to continue evolving and offering new services to consumers.

“As a small-town business, we’re incredibly thankful for the support of our customers and the community. It’s because of you that we can keep growing and introducing new events,” said Mann. “We’re proud to invest back into our town, partnering with local groups and offering spaces where people can come together and make lasting memories.”
