Arborg Heritage Village to host Culturama Sept. 27
Prepare to travel around the world for a multicultural celebration in Arborg on Sept. 27. The Arborg & District Multicultural Heritage Village will host its 10th annual Culturama at the Arborg Community Hall, celebrating multicultural life.
The festival offers opportunities for guests to feast on international cuisines from eight different nations.
“It is a jam-packed event with many cultures being represented with a wonderful array of entertainers for the evening,” explained Arborg Heritage Village co-chair Pat Eyolfson.
For $20, you can buy a passport to visit food booths from various cultures, including El Salvadorian, Ukrainian, Indigenous, Canadian, Filipino, Punjabi, Icelandic and Syrian.
“You will take your passport to each booth where they have cooked up a bunch of delicious treats. By the end, you will eat around the world with a plate of delicious eats,” said Eyolfson.
The Arborg Heritage Village hosted their first Culturama in 2012 and has continued to grow ever since.
“We saw that we were getting so many people immigrating to Arborg,” said Eyolfson. She explained that they wanted to create an event that showcased the people in the community.
“We have these lovely, lovely people in Arborg, and we are so appreciative and want to learn more about their cultures.”
It was an easy choice to host Culturama in Arborg, and considering they sell out of passports each year- the community is very supportive of the event.
Culturama is an opportunity for different cultures to feed, entertain and educate the community about their nations.
Each nation prepares two or three miniature desserts or appetizers for you to try and then puts on a dancing or singing performance later into the evening.
“These wonderful people go through so much work,” Eyolfson uttered.
She noted that each booth will prepare over 800 food samples for guests to try.
Each nation will also have a cultural display with unique elements at each booth.
“Ukraine may display their beautifully decorated eggs, and the Philippines may display bowls or hats,” said Eyolfson.
The hosts at the booth are happy to tell you more about the dishes they are serving, or what items they have on display. Ensure you ask them more about their culture so you can add some learning into your fun evening.
After you fill your plate with food from around the world, you can grab a seat and watch the lively and colourful entertainment to be had at Culturama.
“There will be an array of dancers and singers and entertainers,” Eyolfson added.
From colourful Punjabi dancers to euphonious Filipino singers, the evening will be filled with many international memories.
Your passport ticket to Culturama must be purchased in advance from the Arborg Pharmacy. But act fast as there are only 400 passports available and they are selling quickly.
You can start to visit the Culturama booths at 5 p.m. so you have enough time to take your seat to see the wonderful entertainment beginning at 6:15 p.m.
