A full flock of 1,000 plastic ducks made a splash on 1st Avenue NW during the Dufferin Historical Museum’s third annual fundraising duck race, held on the evening of July 9.
For the first time in the event’s short history, all 1,000 ducks were sold, raising $5,000 through $5 ticket sales. After covering prize payouts, licensing, and minor expenses, the museum netted approximately $4,100 to support its ongoing preservation efforts.
The Carman-Dufferin Fire Department helped launch the race in dramatic fashion, opening the floodgates of a tanker truck to send the ducks tumbling down the street in a fast-paced finish.
Museum president Irene Stevenson was among those celebrating at the finish line, where the top five ducks were corralled and prizes awarded:
1st place: #900 – Sigrid McLeod, $250
2nd place: #850 – Payton Spencer, $200
3rd place: #125 – Trish Aubin, $150
4th place: #439 – Kevin Cutting, $100
5th place: #733 – Cheryl Bartley, $50
A small but spirited crowd cheered from the sidelines, enjoying the quirky community tradition on a warm summer evening.
With the race wrapped up, the ducks are officially off duty—resting until they’re called back for another splash next July.
