Four local skaters from the Tri-S area showcased their skills at the Hockey Manitoba Girls U16 Program of Excellence Spring Selection Camp, held April 24-26 at the Hockey for All Centre.
The local skaters were Kennedy Simpson, Ashlynn Boyd, Kennedy Vokey and Addison Gowryluk, who were among the 136 players selected to attend the camp.
Hockey Manitoba’s U16 Girls POE program is designed to teach up-and-coming female athletes the skills, concepts and tactics specific to the Women’s U18 Program of Excellence, ensuring they receive the development needed to advance to the U18 level and beyond.
Graduates of the program have gone on to compete in U Sports, NCAA and international competition.
Players took part in a series of scrimmages throughout the three-day camp after being divided into eight teams.
Hockey Manitoba will select 40 players from the camp to attend the Girls U16 POE Top 40 Camp in June, the second phase of the program.
The Top 40 Camp will be followed by the Girls U16 POE Competition Phase in August.
