Selkirk residents can follow RCMP news
New local RCMP Facebook pages aim to share community-focused information with residents of the Interlake and beyond.

New RCMP Facebook pages are helping connect communities across the Interlake and beyond, providing residents with timely updates on public safety, local policing initiatives and community events
In addition to the main provincial RCMP Facebook page, a local detachment page launched for Stonewall-Headingley on March 19. Other local RCMP detachment Facebook pages focus on the communities of Selkirk, Thompson, Flin Flon, The Pas, Swan River, Dauphin, Portage la Prairie, Steinbach, St. Pierre-Jolys and Niverville.
“Our goal is simple — to strengthen communication, share important safety information, highlight the great work of our officers and celebrate the partnerships that make our communities safe and welcoming,” said Cpl. Melanie Roussel, media relations officer.
“Together with our dedicated team of police officers, support staff and community partners, we’re committed to providing professional, transparent and community-focused policing.”
Community members can expect to find information that will help them to keep on top of local issues, including property crime or missing people.
“These pages will help residents stay informed about local public safety issues, crime prevention tips, community events and policing initiatives happening in their area. The page may also request community assistance in relation information on possible crime in the area,” Roussel said.
“We encourage community members to follow their local RCMP’s Facebook page for updates on community initiatives, public safety tips and events. Their feedback and engagement is important to us — we’re here to listen and work with them to make their community an even safer place to live, work and visit.”
At the same time, Roussel encourages community members to also follow the RCMP’s main page.
“The main Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba Facebook page will continue to carry news and information with province-wide appeal,” she said. “Be sure to follow both the main page and your local page to stay up to date on all Manitoba RCMP news.”
