Selkirk to host Adult Education Open House on Sept. 4

Date:

September means back-to-school time for more than just the kids.

If you are an adult looking to return to school, attend the Adult Education Open House on Sept. 4 at the Gaynor Family Regional Library (GFRL).

From 5 to 6:30 p.m., six adult education program information booths will be set up in the GFRL Theatre to answer any questions about returning to school.

“This event aims to provide valuable information and resources to adults looking to further their education and improve their employment prospects,” explained AIM For Work Program Manager Justine Scramstead.

If you are thinking about returning to school but are hesitant to start the process, come to the Adult Education Open House on Wednesday evening and talk with one of the adult education experts.

Literacy Coordinator for the Selkirk Learning Centre Adele Plett-Bartel described the open house as a “one-stop shop” for anyone considering expanding their education.

This is the fifth open house for Adult Education. Selkirk Adult Learning Program hosts two open houses each year; attendance has grown for each event.

“We are hoping the timing at the beginning of September is good for people,” said Plett-Bartel.

The Adult Education Open House offers opportunities for all adults, from those looking to get their high school diploma to those already employed who want to upgrade their skills.

“[There] is a real range of opportunities for education and life-long learning,” added Plett-Bartel.

This event is beneficial to those who may have challenges commuting to Winnipeg. Since all of the education and employment opportunities are near Selkirk, the world of education is right in your own neighbourhood.

If you are hesitant about going back to school or know a friend or family member who is considering returning, stop by the Gaynor Family Regional Library on Sept. 4 to speak with one of the experts.

“It is nice to talk to an actual person as it can be daunting trying to figure out the best route,” Plett-Bartel said.

The Adult Education Open House is a drop-and-go event, so you can attend at a time that is convenient for you. The event is free for everyone, and there is also a free raffle you can enter for a chance to win a prize.

If you have any questions about the open house or any of its organizations, you can email aplettbartel@lssd.ca for more information.
