Help Legion fill up the last spots at annual golf tournament

The Selkirk Legion is hosting its Support the Troops golf tournament on June 15 and as of print deadline there are still a few spots left for interested golfers.

“It’s fundraising for the Military Family Resource Center. Every year, we present them with a cheque of money we’ve raised over the year,” said Selkirk Legion President John Austin.

He explained that they like to support this organization because, as a veteran organization, they want to support not just current service members but their families as well.

The golf tournament takes place on June 15 at the Selkirk Golf Course with registration starting at 11:30 a.m. and tee-off time at 1 p.m.

Austin says that it’s important that events like this take place in our community not just as a fundraising event but also to raise awareness.

“Every time we’re out there, it reminds people of what was sacrificed for their well beings so it’s important that we keep the spotlight on that,” he said.

Because this event is supporting our troops, participants are asked to wear red.

The tournament will be a Texas Scramble. The cost of entering is $400 per team and includes golf cart, MSS supper and prizes.

Austin recommends that residents who are interested get their tickets soon as there are only a few spots left.

He also wants to thank our community as the tournament has received a great deal of support from local people and businesses.

Residents who aren’t as talented with a golf club can also support our troops through donations. To enter a team, sign up and pay at the Legion’s bar.
