February is I Love to Read Month, and the Stonewall branch of the South Interlake Regional Library is celebrating with a mysterious theme.
“It is no mystery that we love to read, and the library is full of hearts, detectives, magnifying glasses and a beautiful heart balloon arch over our multipurpose room door,” said branch librarian Joan Ransom.
“We have wrapped many books in all shelving locations and genres with brown paper and a cover sheet that says ‘It’s a MYSTERY what this book’s title is.’ Each cover sheet lists the shelving location, the barcode, the year of publication and a couple of clues about the content of the book.”
Patrons who sign out a wrapped book get a ballot to win a mystery prize. Two prizes are up for grabs — one for adults and one for children.
“We also have partnered with our friends from Beyond Bread Bakery and Café, who have generously donated 50 cookies for those patrons who find a golden magnifying glass coupon in a book on the shelf,” she added.
“We have hidden the coupons in books all over the library, and if you find a coupon poking out of a book, bring it to the circulation desk and speak to a library staff member. You must sign the book and we will authorize the coupon.”
Coupons can be redeemed at Beyond Bread by March 8, 2025.
“We are so thankful for Harold Enns and his staff for baking such delicious treats for our lucky patrons,” Ransom said.
This month, other fun activities in the library include a book character silhouette guessing game and a mysterious scavenger hunt around the library. Just ask a staff member how to participate.
“Pop by the branch and visit us during this month of celebrating reading,” Ransom said.
“Check our website and watch our social media for information and updates on our activities.”
