Golf fundraiser in memory of young mom lost to cancer returns this summer

Date:

A charity golf tournament honouring a young mother who died of cancer is set to return to the greens this summer with a goal of continuing her legacy of kindness and raising critical funds for cancer research.

The third annual HBH Charity Golf Tournament, held in memory of Hailey Belluk Hunt, will take place July 25 at Whispering Winds Golf Course in Warren. Proceeds will go to CancerCare Manitoba.

Hailey was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in August 2021. Just one week later, she married her partner, Daniel — a step that marked the beginning of a fight centred around her dream of being a wife and a mother to their children, Donni and Harvey.

After nine months of treatment, Hailey rang the bell signifying its end in May 2022. But just a week later, doctors told her the cancer had spread to her brain. She died three months later at the age of 30.

“She was always thinking of others first and this was even more evident during her cancer journey; worrying about everyone else in her village,” shared her sister Kendra.

“Hailey was known for many things, among them, her kindness and thoughtful nature.”

In its first two years, the tournament raised more than $43,000 for CancerCare Manitoba. The event, which sold out last year, includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner, prizes and more. The cost is $600 per team of four.

Organizers say Hailey and her sister Randi raised $83,000 for CancerCare Manitoba during their own cancer journeys, spreading a message about early detection and the importance of self-checks.

“With your support we can change the future of breast cancer by raising funds in Hailey’s memory. Help us make Hailey’s legacy of kindness and strength reach far beyond those who knew her,” said Kendra.

Sponsorship opportunities for this year’s event range from $500 to $2,500, with all sponsors receiving signage and promotion. Donations are also eligible for charitable tax receipts.

Golf registration is $600/team and includes four golfers, 18 holes, shared power cart, lunch, dinner and prizes.
