New Stonewall Art Group display opens at HAC

Date:

Interlake artists are showcasing a new display of their latest creative endeavours.

The Stonewall Art Group is made up of 50 members from Stonewall, Rockwood and Woodlands. They’re currently displaying 30 paintings of various mediums by 25 artists with a theme of “Abstract, Antiques and Country Roads” at the Heritage Arts Centre.

“With each semester, they pick a couple of themes and artists create new works, which are then hung at the Heritage Arts Centre. In picking themes, they strive for at least one them to be a challenge or stretch for the artist — something to get them outside their comfort zone,” David Mackinder, a member of the Stonewall Art Group.

“This time around, ‘Abstract’ was that outside-the-box theme as many group members had never tried one and most were certainly uncomfortable with the process. And along with this theme, they provided a couple of more traditional themes.”

The new display will be available for viewing in the lobby of the Heritage Arts Centre for the rest of the year.

“While you are there, please take a turn to the right and take in their Historic Stonewall Display, which covered iconic landmarks and people from our town’s rich history. Thanks to the Heritage Arts Centre for their generous support of the Stonewall Art Group and fabulous display space,” Mackinder said.

“This display at the Heritage Arts Centre is a revolving one on the lobby wall. We change it three times a year, and each time it reflects the output of the theme of our previous group painting session semester.”

The Stonewall Art Group meets each Monday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m.

“New members, of any experience or ability, are always welcome,” Mackinder said.

“Please drop by and check us out.”
