No suspect located in fire at Harbour Hutterite colony

Date:

A fire broke out at the Harbour Hutterite colony (formerly called the Crystal Spring colony) in the RM of Armstrong while many colony members were attending the Manitoba Clean Environment Comission’s public hearing on April 22 with regard to the colony’s proposed wastewater treatment lagoon.

Towards the end of the first hour of the evening hearing, several  members of the colony suddenly left the Fraserwood Hall where the hearing was being held and where many residents were expressing opposition to the colony project.

The Tribune was told later that week a fire had been set at the colony.

The RCMP confirmed there was a fire and that the Armstrong Fire Department responded to it.

“On April 22, at 7:20 p.m., Gimli RCMP received a report of a grass fire near Road 107 N in the RM of Armstrong,” said an RCMP spokesperson. “The Armstrong fire department attended and were able to extinguish the fire quickly. At this time RCMP have not located a suspect in the incident.”

The Tribune reached out to the Armstrong Fire Department chief but he was unable to comment.
