Rockwood council news in brief
• The RM of Rockwood will receive $647,104.31 in per-capita funding from Municipal and Northern Relations, which it will use towards an addition to the Stony Mountain lift station project.
• Council accepted the 2024 budget from Teulon and District Handivan Service and $3,500 levy increase for a total payable levy of $14,000.
• The RM will extend its gravel-supply contract with Heidelberg Materials, formerly Inland Aggregates, as the south supplier. In addition, the RM will extend its gravel-supply contract with Armstrong Construction for the north supplier.
• The RM will pay $250 to Manitoba Good Roads Association for its annual membership fee.
• Council granted permission to a Balmoral resident to have three chickens at his residence. In addition, council will amend its zoning bylaw to include chickens in residential zones.
• Council will authorize a four-person team to participate in the 51st annual Interlake municipal curling bonspiel in Riverton on March 15.
• Council supports the inclusion of the RM of Rockwood as part of the West Interlake Watershed District Act and Regulation.
• The RM will provide a $1,600 sponsorship to the Teulon Rodeo Club.
• Council defeated a proposal to pay $300 to the Hudson Bay Route Association for a 2024 membership fee.
• Council also defeated a proposal to pay $100 for a 2024 membership to the Teulon and District Chamber of Commerce.
• Council conditionally approved a request from a resident to have four dogs on a property on Road 12E. According to Rockwood bylaws, three dogs are permitted on a rural property.
• Council passed a resolution to destroy duplicate copies of certain municipal records.
• Coun. Lana Hintz will attend the 13th annual Red River Basin Commission North Chapter fish dinner gala in West St. Paul on March 20.
• Council defeated requested amendments to a development agreement for the operation of a rural retreat and events centre on Road 3E. The applicant had requested changes to the noise restriction and the number of attendees allowed for medium impact.
• Council authorized a 2024-25 municipal levy of $81.60 to the Redboine Watershed District.
• Council passed first reading of a bylaw to renew the municipality’s annual line of credit.
• Council approved signing the development agreement, which will allow for an increased number of dwelling units at a multi-family complex on Dufferin Drive in Stony Mountain. The conditional use order was granted Jan. 11, 2023.
• The RM will enter into an agreement with Stony Mountain Child Care Co-op for a new licensed daycare to provide up to 74 childcare spots on municipal land on School Road
