Stony Mountain Pick N’ Pay under new ownership

Date:

After exactly 22 years, Stony Mountain’s Pick N’ Pay has a new owner.

Tim Wytinck took over the grocery store on Dec. 3, 2001, and Dec. 3, 2023 was his last day.

The store’s building has been around since the 1900s, and there are photos of horses tied to posts outside for proof. In 1988, the store was expanded, and it’s remained the same since.

When Wytinck took over Pick N’ Pay, he didn’t change a thing — he kept the name and continued to sell the same products, including fresh bakery goods and meat. He did upgrade everything in the store, though, from the shelving to the freezers and coolers. The only thing he didn’t upgrade was the tile floor.

Wytinck said he loved being his own boss, and he loved his employees, always laughing together and swapping jokes. He also loved getting to meet so many people over the years and developing relationships with his customers.

Now, Wytinck is going to spend some time relaxing before he gets bored and finds something else to do with his time.

He’s been working seven days a week every week since he was 12 having grown up on the family farm, so Wytinck knows he won’t be able to sit still for too long, he said.
