Strawberry Social set for July 4

Mark your calendar for a sweet way to welcome summer!

South Interlake 55 Plus is hosting a Strawberry Social on Thursday, July 4 from 1 to 2 p.m. at 374 1st St. West (Oddfellows Hall).

“This event takes place for many years in celebration of the strawberry season, as the centre has held this annual event to celebrate the season and supports the South Interlake 55 Plus centre,” said Deborah Hildebrandt, executive director of South Interlake 55 Plus.

“We provide strawberry shortcake with whipped cream, tea, coffee and entertainment. Two Crows for Comfort are our entertainment this year, and we are beyond excited to have them attend.”

Local musicians Erin Corbin and Cory Sulyma make up Two Crows for Comfort. Two years ago, the duo sold their home in Stonewall for a life on the road performing across North America.

For the Strawberry Social, the audience can look forward to an impressive array of music.

“We never truly plan everything we’ll play, but folks can expect a mix of our original songs and some fun covers,” said Sulyma from a tour stop in Oregon as part of a 25-day tour of Western Canada and the U.S.

“We like to keep things interesting and put our own spin on the classics, which is always fun.”

The musical pair will be in and out of Manitoba often throughout the summer, with another gig coming up at Stonewall’s Canada Day celebration.

“The amount of support we receive from folks in and around the Interlake, and Stonewall specifically, means a lot to us so it’s always a treat to play in town,” Corbin added.

“We’re super grateful for any opportunity to play for the community, and the Strawberry Social will be a fun one.”

Looking ahead, Two Crows For Comfort has an exciting summer in store.

“We’ve always got something cooking up — it seems we can’t sit still. We just received the physical copies of our record before we left for this tour, which folks can pick up at Southside Service if they’re interested in grabbing one,” Sulyma said.

“We’ve got lots more touring over the summer from Manitoba all the way to Alaska. We’re playing at the Fire and Water Festival in Lac du Bonnet in August. We’re staying busy.”

Tickets to the Strawberry Social cost $10 each and are available for purchase until Friday, June 28 at 374 1st St. West (Oddfellows Hall) or by calling 204-467-2582.
