Teulon council news in brief

To celebrate Louis Riel Day, the Town of Teulon flew the Métis flag at the request of the Teulon and District Métis Association. 

The town flew the Métis flags from dawn on Feb. 14 to sunset on Feb. 17 at the town office, the Teulon Senior Resource Centre and the Castle Sign. 

In addition, the two local schools also flew Métis flags at the request of the Teulon and District Métis Association.

In other council news:

• The Manitoba Métis Federation would like to host a one-day pop-up land-based program in Teulon on April 4. The town will provide an outdoor space at no charge for the event. 

• Teulon council approved the application from Teulon and District’s Handivan service to the Rural Transit Solutions Fund for the purchase of a new handivan to add to their existing fleet. The mayor will sign a letter of support.

• TD Bank has identified Teulon as an ideal place to plant a large number of potted spruce trees in September at no cost to the town. Council will participate with the Toronto Dominion Bank on the TD Tree Days program and provide a location in town to plant the spruce trees. 

• Council will sponsor a quarter-page ad in the 2025 Interlake Travel Guide for $415 plus tax. They would like to improve the town’s marketing and promotional activities. The Interlake Travel Guide is an annual guide produced by the Interlake Tourism Association to promote tourism. It has a circulation of 10,000 copies distributed around the Interlake and Winnipeg, including Travel Manitoba locations and Manitoba visitor centres.

• Michelle Salkeld has been offered the position of recreation and payroll administrator for the Town of Teulon.
