Teulon residents will soon have a convenient option to pay their property taxes on a monthly basis.
The tax installment prepayment plan (TIPP) allows ratepayers to make consecutive monthly payments that are deducted automatically from their bank account.
This monthly tax payment plan will be available to Teulon residents in 2025.
In other council news:
- The memory of a local man will live on — and so will his love of sports. The Teulon Minor Hockey Association is teaming up with the Town of Teulon to create a shooting corner at the Teulon Rockwood Arena in honour of Wes Killbery. In November 2022, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer, and he lost his battle six months later.
- Council is providing a letter of support for a local committee’s fundraising efforts with a goal of developing a multi-purpose building at Teulon Rockwood Green Acres Park.
- The town needs to retain municipal records for a minimum retention period set out in the Municipal Act. After that time, certain types of records must be retained and others can be destroyed. The town will destroy some documents and records as allowed by the Municipal Act.
- The town’s online campground reservation service (www.campreservations.ca) has been sold to an American company. The Town of Teulon will now be working with a Canadian company called Let’s Camp.ca for its reservation system for 2025.
- The Town of Teulon hadn’t been using any payroll software and was starting to implement Payworks as its payroll software system. At the Dec. 10 council meeting, council passed a resolution to stop the implementation of Payworks for now because of staff shortages delaying its possible implementation. Reid & Miller Chartered Professional Accountants Inc. is providing interim payroll services starting in January 2025 for the Town of Teulon and they will also finish the setup process on behalf of the town on the Payworks system.
- The Town of Teulon will purchase a quarter-page ad in the 2025 Stay Manitoba Camping Guide for $395 plus tax.
- Council approved a three-year quote from GFL Environmental Inc. for recycling. Cascades Recovery will no longer accept recycling starting March 1.
- Council approved a garbage collection contract with 4570732 Manitoba Ltd. for $3,600 plus tax per month for 2025.
- The Town of Teulon will enter into mutual aid agreements with the RMs of Rockwood, Armstrong, Woodlands and St. Andrews.
- Council approved spending $675 on employee Christmas gifts.
- The Town of Teulon will sponsor the costs of one event to be held at the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Centre for a trivia night fundraiser that will be organized by the Teulon Travel Club and TCI Safe Grad in March 2025.
- Council authorized reimbursement of phone expenses for the financial and administrative assistant at a cost of $60 per month effective Jan. 1, 2025.
- The Town of Teulon will collaborate on an initiative called the Capstone Project with Assiniboine Community College. Through this project, the college’s creative media students will revitalize and improve the town’s website and digital presence in an effort to create stronger connections with residents.
