Salem BBQ raises $26K

Date:

Salem Home’s annual community barbecue was a resounding success last week, raising $26,000 for the Winkler care home’s new handivan.

Six hundred meals were served at the May 27 event, which was organized by the Salem Foundation and the Salem Home Ladies Auxiliary. The evening included a by-donation barbecue supper, prize raffles, and music from the Quonset Brothers.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by our community,” said foundation chair Henry Enns. “It was wonderful to see so many people come together to support our residents while enjoying great food, music, and fellowship. The arrival of the handivan in time for summer outings makes this especially exciting for everyone involved.”

The handivan, which replaces an older vehicle that had fewer seats, has already been purchased and is about to be put into action, but fundraising continues to help Salem cover the full cost of it. You can connect with Salem Foundation to make a donation.
