Fishermen ousted in overtime by Comets

Date:

The Selkirk Fishermen took an early lead but ultimately fell short, losing 4-3 in overtime to the Beausejour Comets on Friday night at the Sun Gro Centre.

Jaedys Dancyt made a significant impact for the Comets, scoring the game-tying goal in the third period and the game-winner just 20 seconds into overtime.

Logan Saluk and Izzy Aime each scored to give the Fishermen a 2-0 advantage in the first period, and Dawson Bergagnini added another goal in the third. However, the Comets matched the Fishermen’s efforts with timely responses each time.

The Fishermen outshot the Comets 45-43, with Johnny Ens-Demchuk making 39 saves in goal for Selkirk. Despite the loss, they earned a point for the overtime defeat, bringing their season total to 32 points. They currently sit fourth in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League with a record of 9 wins, 11 losses, 0 ties, 1 overtime loss, and 3 shoot out losses.

Next, they will host the third-place Lundar Falcons on Sunday afternoon at the Selkirk Recreation Complex. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
