The 2025 Montana’s Brier, Canada’s national men’s curling championship, is being held from Feb. 28 to March 9 at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia.
A total of eighteen teams qualified for the 2025 Brier. The fourteen Canadian curling member associations held play downs to determine who would represent their province or territory. Team Canada is then represented by Team Brad Gushue, who won the 2024 Montana’s Brier. Then, the three pre qualified wildcard spots were given to teams Brad Jacobs, Mike McEwen and Matt Dunstone.
The province of Manitoba will be well represented, as Granite’s Reid Carruthers (B.J. Neufeld, Catlin Schneider, Connor Njegovan) and Fort Rouge’s Matt Dunstone (Colton Lott of Winnipeg Beach, E.J. Harnden, Ryan Harnden) will be competing.
There is also an influx of import Manitobans who have parachuted into different provinces to compete at the Brier: Ryan Wiebe (Ontario), Ian McMillan (Northern Ontario), Ty Dilello (Newfoundland and Labrador), Sheldon Wettig (Nunavut), and Mike McEwen (Saskatchewan).
The eighteen teams will play off in two pools of nine teams each. It is a full round-robin, and each team is guaranteed eight games. From there, the top three teams from each pool will advance to the playoff round, and eventually, it will get to a four-team page playoff that wraps up with the championship final on Sunday evening.
Pool A features Kevin Koe (Alberta), Cameron De Jong (British Columbia), Brad Gushue (Canada), Reid Carruthers (Manitoba), Matt Dunstone (Manitoba), James Grattan (New Brunswick), Ty Dilello (Newfoundland and Labrador), John Epping (Northern Ontario), Shane Latimer (Nunavut).
Pool B features Brad Jacobs (Alberta), Aaron Bartling (Northwest Territories), Owen Purcell (Nova Scotia), Sam Mooibroek (Ontario), Tyler Smith (Prince Edward Island), Felix Asselin (Quebec), Rylan Kleiter (Saskatchewan), Mike McEwen (Saskatchewan), Thomas Scoffin (Yukon).
The winning team from this week’s Brier will go on to represent Team Canada at the 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, which will be held from March 29 to April 6.
