Trottier, Fleury among NHL greats coming to Selkirk

Date:

Hockey Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier and a crew of National Hockey League alumni will be taking over the Selkirk Recreation Complex once again this fall.

Hosted by the Selkirk Steelers, the second annual event will feature a dinner social and NHL alumni game Oct. 9–10.

In 2024, Trottier brought a strong contingent of former NHLers to town for the inaugural event. Fellow hall inductees Billy Smith and Marcel Dionne were among the visitors.

This year, Theo Fleury, Bernie Nicholls, Jamie Leach, Dave Ellett, Andrew Murray, Ryan Garbutt, Dustin Boyd, Dale Weise and Matthew Barnaby have already been confirmed.

“Some of the same, some new, and we just try and bring new guys in to showcase the talent to the community,” said Steelers president Jordan Fillion.

Fans will have a chance to meet the players during the dinner social on Oct. 9, which will include meet and greets, a Q-and-A session, auctions, autograph signings and dinner served by members of the Steelers.

The alumni game on Oct. 10 will see the former NHLers suit up against event sponsors wearing Selkirk Steelers uniforms.

Trottier’s NHL Legends squad defeated the sponsor team 19-14 in last year’s game. Some fans also had the experience of a lifetime by suiting up for portions of the matchup.

“It was a great success for the community, it was a great success for us,” said Fillion. “Bryan enjoyed it, the hockey guys enjoyed it, so we just want to keep growing on it, and we hope this is going to be an annual event.”

Selkirk is one of several stops for Trottier’s Legendary Hockey Heroes tour.

The Manitoba Métis Federation has helped make the event possible through its contributions.

Tickets are available by emailing events@selkirksteelers.com or at local Selkirk businesses including Roxi’s Uptown Café, Selkirk Home Hardware Building Centre, Keystone Source for Sports and The Selkirk Record.
