Community rallies to support father battling colon cancer

Date:

Family, friends and neighbours are stepping up to support a local Warren man as he faces a difficult cancer diagnosis.

Jason Schroeder, a devoted husband, father and railway worker, was diagnosed with colon cancer in July. Further testing in August revealed ascites fluid and affected lymph nodes, leaving him in considerable pain and limiting his treatment options. Physicians have determined surgery is not possible at this time, and the family is awaiting next steps for treatment.

The diagnosis has been life-altering. Jason, who has always been active and hardworking, has been unable to work since August. For a man used to keeping busy and surrounded by his coworkers in the railway world, the sudden change has been hard to adjust to.

With medical treatments, medications and household expenses adding up, the Schroeder family has launched a fundraising campaign to help ease the financial burden.

“Jason is a supportive and caring father, husband and friend,” the family said in a statement. “Every donation, no matter the amount, helps give Jason a chance and some stress relief. If you are unable to give, sharing this campaign means just as much. Your prayers, love and encouragement are deeply appreciated.”

The family said they are overwhelmed by the support they’ve already received from friends, acquaintances and the broader community since his diagnosis.

Donations will go toward medical costs, daily living expenses and bills while Jason focuses on his treatment and recovery.

Contributions can be made online through the campaign “Help Jason — Devoted Father and Husband Fight Against Cancer” at www.gofundme.com/f/jason-devoted-father-and-husband-fight-against-cancer
