Warren’s Cowan named NCHC Rookie of the Week

Date:

Dawson Cowan is off to a sensational beginning to his University of Nebraska Omaha career.

In just the second game of his college career, the Warren native stopped all 32 shots he faced in Omaha’s 2-0 win over then No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs on Nov. 15 at AMSOIL Arena.

The shutout goes as the first of the NCAA career for the 20-year-old. He was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week for Nov. 10-16 for his efforts.

The win marked Omaha’s fifth of the season and second with Cowan in net.

Cowan made 28 saves on 31 shots in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Broncos.

Omaha now hold a 5-7 record. Cowan holds a 2-1 record with a 2.35 goals against average and a .932 save percentage, along with the shutout and Rookie of the Week accolade.

Omaha plays this Friday and Saturday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT against the Yale Bulldogs.
