The Warren Wildcats women’s high school hockey team put together a strong response at the end of a challenging week, rebounding from back-to-back losses with a 2–0 win over the John Taylor Pipers in Division 1/2 – West action.
Warren opened the week on Nov. 25 with a tight 3–1 loss to the Westwood Warriors at Access Credit Union Arena. After a scoreless first period, Annika Reesink gave the Wildcats a 1–0 lead at 8:05 of the second when she finished a pass from Mackenzie Boonstra. Westwood equalized late in the period, then added two more in the third at 4:56 and 4:15. Warren generated 18 shots but couldn’t find another goal, while goaltender Emma Cassils made 19 saves.
The following day at Hockey for All Centre, Warren ran into one of the division’s top teams, falling 7–0 to the third-place SMA Flames. SMA scored four times in the opening period and added three more in the third. Despite the lopsided result, goaltender Joslyn Tetlock turned aside 41 shots in a standout performance under constant pressure. Warren finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Wildcats recovered well on Nov. 28, controlling key moments in a 2–0 shutout victory over John Taylor. Nicole Hutchinson opened the scoring at 6:09 of the first period, burying a pass from Ella Riddell, who added her second assist of the game in the third when she helped set up Daisy Ducharme at 7:08. Warren protected the lead with disciplined defensive play and timely clears, while Tetlock posted a flawless 19-save shutout.
The Wildcats now sit at 5-6-0-2-1 for 17 points, holding sixth place in the Division 1/2 – West standings after 14 games. Warren has scored 20 goals and allowed 39 while showing signs of tightening its defensive zone play.
Warren returns home Tuesday, Dec. 2, when the SMA Flames visit Access Credit Union Arena at 3:15 p.m.
Warren splits games with Lorette and Pinawa, holds third in Price Division
The Warren Wildcats faced two very different results in Price Division action last week — a 5–2 loss to first-place Lorette on Nov. 24, followed by a convincing 3–0 shutout win over Pinawa two days later.
Warren opened the scoring early when Ashton Baldwin buried a setup from Ty Olson at 14:40, but Lorette answered with three straight goals in the first period, including a power-play tally that pushed the hosts into a 3–1 deficit after 20 minutes.
The Wildcats clawed back in the second when Olson struck at 1:38, finishing a pass from Layne Noren to make it 4–2. But that was as close as Warren would get. Lorette added an insurance marker in the final frame to close out the win.
Despite the loss, goaltender Mason Klassen turned aside 27 shots, keeping Warren within reach through long stretches of sustained Lorette pressure.
Two days later, the Wildcats delivered one of their most complete defensive performances of the season, shutting out Pinawa 3–0 at the Lac du Bonnet Sports Arena.
Olson continued his strong week with a dominant first period, scoring twice — including the game-winner at 10:16 — and assisting on Landon Tully’s marker at 2:37. Baldwin and Lexon Hogg each added two assists, giving Warren a 3–0 edge after 20 minutes.
From there, goaltender Josh Tristram took over, turning aside all 15 shots he faced for the shutout. Warren also killed off a parade of second- and third-period penalties, including multiple head-contact calls and a late-game slashing minor, to preserve the clean sheet.
At 8–1–0, Warren remains one of the division’s top teams, sitting third with 24 points, trailing only undefeated Niverville (24 pts in 8 GP) and Lorette (28 pts in 11 GP). The Wildcats boast the division’s third-best defensive record, allowing just 11 goals through nine games.
Growth from Olson, Baldwin and Hogg continues to power Warren’s offence, while Klassen and Tristram have combined for an elite 1.22 team goals-against average.
