Deer heads scored at annual Big Buck Night in Chatfield

The Chatfield Community Club held its annual Big Buck Night at the community hall on Nov. 27, with hunters and guests gathering for the scoring of antlers by the Manitoba Big Game Trophy Association (MBGTA). A total of 28 heads were entered this year.

In the adult typical class, first place went to Tayden Hazelton of Inwood with a score of 162 3/8 inches, qualifying for the 57th Anniversary Edition of the Manitoba Record Book (RB). Second place was awarded to Jay McCauley of Lundar at 160inches (RB) and third place to Dave Mozdzen of Stonewall scoring 156 2/8 inches.

In the adult non-typical class, Danny Kleinsasser of Stonewall placed first with 177 1/8 inches. Second place was awarded to Raleigh Plett of Arborg at 174 4/8 inches, followed by Ben Murray of Portage la Prairie in third place at 165 4/8 inches.

There were five entries in the youth typical class, with four qualifying for the record book. First place went to Carmen Thorgilsson of Lundar scoring 144 7/8 inches. Second place was Oliver Sigurdson of Riverton at 120 4/8 inches, third place was Harley Halldorson of Lundar at 115 6/8 inches, and fourth place was awarded to Jordan Blewer of Stonewall for a 107.88 inches entry.

The MBGTA is a non-profit organization founded in 1969. It scores and records antlers and bear skulls from big game harvested in Manitoba, maintaining the Manitoba Record Book. Volunteer scorers travel throughout the province to attend events and competitions, entering qualifying specimens based on minimum measurement requirements.
