Christmas cantata returns to Stonewall United Church

Date:

Stonewall United Church welcomed audiences to its annual Christmas cantata this past weekend, presenting A Ceremony of Candles on Dec. 13 and 14. Music director Cathy Horbas said the 26-person choir — made up of the Stonewall United Church choir and community members who joined specifically for the production — came together to share their love of Christmas music.

This year’s cantata also featured a contemporary companion drama written by Stonewall resident Catie Peterson, which Horbas described as a modern take on the reason for the season that highlighted the importance of family traditions. Peterson, a University of Winnipeg theatre and film graduate and a longtime participant in the cantatas as a dancer and performer, said writing the full original script was a new experience and one she was grateful to take on.

Proceeds from the performances supported Stonewall United Church.
