The Lundar Falcons will have to wait another week before trying again to secure their first win of the calendar year.
Lundar returned to the ice on Jan. 9 and 10 following the Christmas break, but came up short against two of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League’s top clubs, falling 6–4 to the Beausejour Comets and 5–1 to the Selkirk Fishermen.
Friday night at the Sun Gro Centre, the Falcons spotted Beausejour a 3–0 first-period lead before beginning a comeback. Daniel Masters got Lundar on the board late in the second period with a shorthanded, unassisted goal to make it 3–1.
After the Comets restored a three-goal cushion early in the second, Lundar stormed back in the third. Hayden Kaczorowski scored twice, and Braeden Lukas added the tying goal at 8:27 to pull the Falcons even at 4–4 midway through the period.
The rally was short-lived, however, as Beausejour answered with goals from Jaedys Dancyt and Job Peters in the final six minutes to seal the 6–4 decision.
Seth Hasker made 43 saves for Lundar in the loss, while Beausejour netminder Alex Cavanagh turned aside 21 shots.
The Falcons were back at home Saturday night at Lundar Arena, where Selkirk struck twice in the opening period and never looked back. Masters again provided the lone bright spot for Lundar, scoring unassisted midway through the second to cut the deficit to 2–1.
Selkirk pulled away in the third with three unanswered goals, including two on the power play, to claim the 5–1 win.
Dylan Leclair finished with 32 saves for Lundar, while Selkirk goaltenders Johnny Enns-Demchuk and Marcus Sharpe combined to stop 28 of 29 shots.
Lundar will look to regroup this week as they continue CRJHL action.
