The Lord Selkirk Royals endured a challenging week in Winnipeg High School Hockey League Platinum Promotions Division action, dropping back-to-back games to remain ninth in the standings at 8–11.
Lord Selkirk opened the week with a 5–3 road loss to the Oak Park Raiders on Jan. 21. The Raiders struck first late in the opening period before the Royals evened the contest in the second when Kageon Carver scored, assisted by Nolan Dear and Mateo Malbasa. Oak Park responded with two goals later in the frame to take a 3–1 lead into the third.
Lucas Einarson scored twice in the final period for the Raiders, including an empty-net goal, while the Royals pushed back late with goals from Erik Evason and Malbasa. Despite the rally, Oak Park held on for the two-goal victory.
The Royals returned home the following day but were shut out 1–0 by the Shaftesbury Titans on Jan. 22. The defensive battle was decided by a single goal, with Lord Selkirk unable to convert despite generating chances throughout the game.
The Royals will look to return to the win column Monday, Jan. 26, when they host the River East Kodiaks at 3:45 p.m., before heading back on the road Friday, Jan. 30, for a 4 p.m. matchup against the Collège Jeanne-Sauvé Olympiens.
In Manitoba Women’s High School Hockey League East Division play, the Selkirk Royals dropped a 4–2 road decision to the Lorette Scorpions on Jan. 21.
Lorette opened the scoring late in the first period, but Selkirk responded in the second with two goals from Kennedy Simpson. Simpson tied the game midway through the frame before giving the Royals a brief lead with her second of the night, with assists from Delainey Kiteley and Isabella Ernstberer.
The Scorpions answered in the third period with three unanswered goals, including a shorthanded marker, to secure the win.
With the loss, Selkirk remains 11th in the East Division with a 3–17 record. The Royals do not have any games scheduled this week.
