The Macdonald Swarm remained perfect on the season with a 9–0 victory over the Warren 67’s on Friday night at the Sanford Recreation Centre in Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League action.
Macdonald struck early and often, building a 4–0 lead after the first period. Tyler Van de Velde scored twice in the opening frame, including the game-winning goal at 3:21, while Adam Bossyut and Cade McCallum rounded out the scoring. McCallum’s goal came on the power play, the Swarm’s lone conversion on five chances.
The Swarm continued to roll in the second period with three more goals, including Van de Velde’s hat trick marker at 14:48. Carter Campbell and Slade Sotheran also scored as Macdonald carried a 7–0 lead into the third.
Hunter Mangin added two goals in the final period to complete the scoring.
Ethan Wiebe turned aside all 20 shots he faced to earn the shutout for Macdonald. At the other end, Scott Mailloux made 53 saves in a losing effort for Warren.
The game featured a lengthy penalty sheet, with multiple roughing incidents and misconducts issued to both teams, particularly during the second and third periods. Warren finished 0-for-8 on the power play.
Macdonald improved to 27-0-0 on the season and continues to lead the HTJHL standings, while Warren fell to 2-23-0-3.
The two teams will meet again Friday, Feb. 6, in Warren, before the 67’s travel to Landmark on Sunday, Feb. 8.
