Mitchell’s 33 points powers Rams to fourth straight league win

Date:

After a two-week hiatus, the Stonewall Rams varsity boys basketball team returned to game action Wednesday and picked up where it left off.

Looking to extend a three-game regular-season winning streak, the Rams delivered a strong offensive performance in a 76–61 home victory over the Westwood Warriors.

Wyatt Mitchell led Stonewall with 33 points for coach Tyler Ammeter’s squad, which earned its second consecutive win over Westwood.

The victory improved the Rams’ regular-season record to 4–1, placing them third in the eight-team Winnipeg Tier 2 standings. They trail only Elmwood (4–0) and Shaftesbury (5–0) in the race for the league’s top two spots.

Stonewall will have an opportunity to close the gap with four games remaining in the regular season, including a matchup against Elmwood at College Stonewall Collegiate on Feb. 23.

Before then, the Rams are scheduled to face the Portage Trojans, St. John’s Tigers and St. James Jimmies as they look to extend their winning streak.

Stonewall also saw tournament action over the weekend at the Mike Babb Invitational at Elmwood High School, finishing with a 1–2 record and placing fourth.

Upcoming games:

Tuesday, Feb. 10 — at Portage Trojans, 4:30 p.m., Portage Collegiate

Wednesday, Feb. 11 — vs. St. John’s Tigers, 4:30 p.m., College Stonewall Collegiate
