Four decades of childcare celebrated in Lundar

Date:

After 40 years of shaping young lives in Lundar, Bonnie Lynn Rae is closing one chapter and beginning another.

Rae was recently honoured for her four decades of service at the Lundar Day Care, where she has played a central role in caring for and nurturing generations of children in the community. Interlake–Gimli MLA Derek Johnson presented Rae with a certificate recognizing her 40th anniversary of employment and her retirement during a special visit on Feb. 26.

The certificate acknowledged Rae’s dedication, commitment and care throughout a valued career of service, noting that 40 years of employment is a remarkable testament to perseverance, professionalism and the positive impact of a lifetime of hard work.

In a social media post following the presentation, Johnson described Rae’s milestone as “a remarkable achievement.”

“Bonnie has helped shape generations of children in our community,” he wrote.

Johnson added that what makes Rae’s legacy especially meaningful is seeing former children in her care now returning as parents themselves.

“What makes this even more special is that some of the parents who now bring their children to the day care were once in Bonnie’s care themselves,” the post continued. “That kind of legacy cannot be measured. It speaks to trust, compassion and a lifetime of impact.”

Over four decades, Rae became a familiar and trusted presence for countless families in Lundar and the surrounding area. Her work extended far beyond daily routines, helping children learn, grow and feel safe during their earliest years.

Community members also shared their appreciation online. In a Facebook comment, Laura Burdett reflected on Rae’s lasting impact across generations.

“The woman that was there for my children when they attended day care and then my grandchildren,” Burdett wrote. “Bonnie was always a kind, welcoming face to all who entered the day care. Congratulations on her 40 years and her retirement.”

While retirement marks the end of her time at the day care, the impact of her career will continue to be felt for years to come — reflected in the many young people and families she has supported.

Johnson concluded his message by wishing Rae continued happiness, good health and fulfillment as she embarks on her well-earned retirement.
