A pair of longtime local shoppers are celebrating after winning a major prize through a grocery store contest at Teulon Bigway Foods.
Greg and Donna Mackay of Teulon were recently announced as the winners of the TGP Fresh Ride Giveaway, which ran from Feb. 12 to April 8 and offered participants across Western Canada the chance to win either a new Ford Maverick or a cash prize of $40,000.
The Mackays, who are regular customers at the store, chose the cash prize after their entry was selected as the contest’s sole grand prize winner.
“This is incredible. We couldn’t have asked for a better surprise,” Donna Mackay said in a news release. “We’re excited to treat ourselves a little but also plan to pay some bills and travel to see family we haven’t had the chance to visit in a while.”
Store owner Ian Palsson said it was exciting to see the prize stay within the local community.
“It’s nice to see someone local win a grand prize,” said Palsson. “It shows these contests really do have big winners that are in fact local.”
Palsson said the couple moved to Teulon from Winnipeg and have been retired in the community for the past couple of years.
“They are very regular customers,” he said.
Palsson added that participation from Teulon shoppers was especially strong throughout the promotion.
“Our store metrics for participation in the online contest were very high and speaks to a savvy clientele,” he said.
The promotion generated excitement among shoppers throughout the region and highlighted the strong community support behind the local grocery store.
“We are so happy to be part of this wonderful initiative,” Mandy Palsson said. “It’s always a pleasure to give back to our community and reward our valued customers. Congratulations to Greg and Donna, and we hope they enjoy the cash prize.”
Teulon Bigway Foods thanked everyone who participated in the contest and said it looks forward to hosting more community-focused events in the future.
