Interlake trio inches toward Team Manitoba selection

Date:

Three locals to the Interlake Region have reached the second round of Team Manitoba hockey tryouts.

Hockey Manitoba Program of Excellence camp rolled on last week with the Girls U16 Top-40 camp from June 5-7 at Hockey For All Centre.

Players from the 2011 and 2012 age groups partook in a series of practices, games, and team building events over the three-day camp which acts as the final set of tryouts for the Girls U16 Team Manitoba POE.

In Winnipeg, Selkirk’s Kennedy Simpson and Narol’s Kennedy Vokey represented Team Black in game action.

The pair spent this past season with the AAA Winnipeg Avros White, where they paced the team in points.

Simpson led the Avros with 30 goals and 20 assists in 28 games while Vokey produced 23 goals and 18 assists in her 27 games played as one of the league’s youngest players.

At camp, they faced off with West St. Paul forward Mya Rosenbaum, who made up the lone Interlake representation on Team White.

Rosenbaum is also coming off a successful campaign which she spent with Balmoral Hall U18 Prep, scoring 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 30 regular season games.

Hockey Manitoba evaluators will now determine a final roster that will move on to the Girls U16 POE Competition Phase in August.

The Competition Phase is slotted for Aug. 21-23 back at Hockey For All Centre.
