The Central Energy U17 team led the organization this past week, sweeping the Manitoba Angels, while the U13 and U15 squads battled the Westman Magic and the U19 team awaited results from weekend action.
The U17 squad earned a pair of convincing victories June 22 at JBSC 5, defeating the Angels 12-4 before completing the sweep with a 14-3 win.
Addison Nikkel led the offence, collecting three hits in the opener while earning the win in relief with seven strikeouts over four innings. She drove in four runs in Game 2 with a two-run triple and a two-run single. Mya Richard had three RBIs in the opener, while Shyanne Goertzen, Taryn Toews and Becca Anderson also contributed offensively. Kennedy Funk earned the second-game win, while Ava Bonik, Payton Manness, Goertzen and Nikkel each had two hits.
Central Energy returns to action June 30 with a doubleheader against the Westman Magic at Winkler Parkland Diamond 1 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., then hosts the Winnipeg Lightning for a Canada Day doubleheader July 1 at Republic of Manitobah Diamond 9 beginning at 10 a.m.
The U13 team dropped both games of a June 27 road doubleheader against Westman in Crystal City, falling 13-10 and 9-3.
Despite the losses, Skilyr M. collected four hits on the day, including three in the opener. Presley F., Hailyn P. and Madison K. drove in runs in Game 1 as Central Energy stole 11 bases. Skilyr M. and Hailyn P. each had an RBI in Game 2, while the team added eight more stolen bases.
The U13 squad returns July 1 for a Canada Day doubleheader against the Winnipeg Lightning at Republic of Manitobah Diamond 2 beginning at 10 a.m.
The U15 team also dropped a pair of games to Westman on June 26, losing 2-1 before falling 11-6.
Lexi Kemp struck out nine over 6⅔ innings in the opener, while Kylie Wiebe had two hits and the lone RBI. Wiebe stayed hot in Game 2, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI as Central Energy out-hit Westman 12-9. Brielle Friesen, Ember Wiebe, Collins Vrooman, Kelsey Dyck and Jaidyn Smart also drove in runs.
The U15 squad opens a six-game stretch over five days July 1 with a Canada Day doubleheader against the Winnipeg Lightning at Republic of Manitobah Diamond 2 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Central Energy then travels to Stonewall on July 4 to face the Interlake Phillies before concluding the week July 5 against the Winnipeg Lightning at Riel Park.
The U19 team also played June 27, but results were unavailable by press time. It returns to action July 1 with a Canada Day doubleheader against the Winnipeg Lightning at Republic of Manitobah Diamond 9 beginning at 3 p.m.
