Juventus bested by UPSC in first match back

Date:

Stonewall’s CSSE Juventus made their long-awaited return to the pitch last week.

The Manitoba Major Soccer League Division 2 club had three weeks off since their 2-1 win over Richmond Kings in their last match back on June 5.

After back-to-back game cancellations due to rain, Juventus returned to play on Friday where they ultimately fell 3-1 to United Punjab Sport Club at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex.

Juventus were without their top scorer in Danila Shakhov in the match as Robert Jarquin stepped up as their lone goal scorer.

The tally wasn’t enough to keep pace with the second-ranked United Punjab Sport Club squad who improved to 6-2 on the season.

Juventus meanwhile dropped to 2-4 which sees them sitting eighth in the Division 2 table despite playing the fewest matches of all 10 clubs.

They will aim to redeem themselves next week when they face both FCNWNexGen (3-3-1) and the Hanover Strikers (5-2) in a two-game set.

Both clubs sit in the top six, making an opportunity for Juventus to prove themselves against some high-end opponents.

Upcoming game:

• Tuesday, June 30 vs FCNWNexGen, 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex

• Sunday, July 5 at Hanover Strikers, 7:30 p.m. at Steinbach Soccer Park Penner International Field
