The Lord Selkirk School Division Track and Field meet on May 28 showcased the exceptional athletic talent from around the division with numerous standout performances.
Lockport School’s Ryan Boch stood out in the grade seven boys division with victories in the 800 metre and 1200m events. Maya Korell, also from Lockport, demonstrated her versatility in the grade seven girls category by winning the 100m, 300m, and shot put events. Her schoolmate, Anna Wiebe, matched this feat with first-place finishes in long jump, discus, and triple jump.
Ecole Selkirk’s Carson Salmon impressed in the sprinting category of the grade eight boys division, winning gold in the 100m, 200m, and hurdles. Lockport’s Kaden Pierre showed well in the middle-distance runs, winning the 800m and 1200m.
In the grade eight girls’ division, Jordan Lemire of Ecole Selkirk dominated the sprints. She won both the 100m and 200m, while Lockport’s Carys Krut won the 1200m and 2000m races.
In the grade nine boys category, Lockport’s Dixon Hartwich won triple gold in the 100m, 200m, and 300m races. His schoolmate Elliot Romans showed well in the field events, winning the triple jump and javelin. Ecole Selkirk’s Erik Evason also won three events: the 800, long jump, and high jump.
Emily Beattie of East Selkirk dominated events on the track and in the field in the grade nine girls division. She won the 100m, hurdles, and high jump. Walter Whyte’s Puya Amin won both the triple jump and discus while her schoolmate Sarah Feakes won both shot put and javelin.
Athletes who advanced beyond the event competed in the Manitoba Junior High Track and Field Provincials on June 13 at the University of Manitoba.
Lockport School won 25 medals at provincials, including five students winning gold medals.

Samuel Wiebe in grade nine boys discus with a 35.8m heave, Dixon Hartwich in the 300m with a time of 40.03, and Nick Edbom, Reid Sardo, Elliot Romans, and Hartwich as the boys 800m medley relay winners.
