First responders honoured at Ice Dawgs home game

Date:

The Arborg Ice Dawgs hosted the Lundar Falcons on Friday for First Responders Appreciation Night at Arborg & District Arena.

Riverton-Bifrost Fire Chief Jason Comeau, Arborg-Bifrost Fire Chief Jeff Pearce, and Arborg EMS Terrell Kerbrat were three of many first responders in attendance with free game tickets.

The trio helped open the evening with a ceremonial puck drop at centre ice before joining the rest of the first responders in attendance and members of the Ice Dawgs for a group photo.

“It went very well. It was a good turnout of first responders and fans,” said Ice Dawgs general manager Lloyd Barylski. “It’s nice to know that the community has emergency services at our door when they are needed.”

Despite a packed arena, the Ice Dawgs could not secure a victory, losing 5-2 to the Falcons.

Jaxon Grose and Brandon Burak scored the Ice Dawgs goals while Nathan Meisner made 47 saves despite losing.

On Sunday, the Ice Dawgs struggled again on the road against the Selkirk Fishermen.

After Burak tied the game at three in the third period, the Fishermen scored three straight goals to take it 6-3, handing the Ice Dawgs their third consecutive defeat.

They now hold a 1-5-0-1-0 record for sixth place in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League this season.

The Ice Dawgs will host the Fishermen again this Saturday in Arborg at 7:30 p.m.
