Border Land School Division made several hiring announcements for the upcoming school year last week.

Stepping into the principal role at Emerson School in September is Reggie Giesbrecht, who has worked at the school for the past decade in various capacities as a classroom, guidance, and resource teacher.

“Reggie’s vision of leadership is grounded in relationships, clarity, and a shared commitment to student success,” the division shared. “He believes that an effective teaching principal leads by being present, approachable, and actively engaged in both the classroom and broader school community.”

Also appointed principal is Shelley Gray, who will head up École Parkside School in Altona. Gray has been in education for nearly 20 years, including 12 years teaching all subjects at École Morden Middle School.

“Shelley believes that the foundation for all leadership resides in relationships, trust, and a clear focus on student learning,” BLSD shared. “Her goal is to foster a culture where students are engaged in meaningful learning, where staff feel supported in their professional growth, and where families feel welcomed as partners in the education of their children.”

Additionally, two vice-principal positions have been filled: Melanie Mattson at Shevchenko School and  Stormy Roach at Roseau Valley School.

Mattson has spent 22 years teaching multiple subjects in K-12 with a focus on early and middle years. She has been the acting vice-principal at Shevchenko for the past two years.

Roach has taught all subjects in the early years since starting as a teacher in 2019, both in the Winnipeg School Division and for the last two years at Roseau Valley School. She was previously an education assistant for seven years.
