Back on Cue gives back to Carman community

Theatre group donates $2,500 to local organizations

Successful productions this fall have allowed Carman’s theatrical group, Back on Cue, to “give back” to the community.

Two well performed and well attended performances of the play Perils of Persephone in late October were enjoyed by the community and were financially successful.

The members of Back on Cue (BOC) met this month and — after considering several worthy causes — four local organizations received donations.

Sandra Yeo, head librarian for the Carman Regional Library, accepted a cheque for $500 from BOC member, Annette Hall.

Yeo expressed her appreciation and said the donation will be used to further the many programs that the library organizes to benefit Carman’s children and seniors.

BOC members recognize the value of the library to Carman, promoting wellness and social activities. The library makes its facilities open to the needs of the community.

Nigel Bart, executive director, and Rita Bisht, chairperson for the Golden Prairie Arts Council, also received a $500 cheque from Back on Cue director, Faye Harms.

Bart said GPAC needs new art supplies, especially paint brushes that are used to teach art. The council will use the donation from BOC to keep its painting projects going.

Members of BOC feel privileged to be able to support such a worthy cause that helps to make Carman a great place to live, Harms said.

Leora Collingridge, Carman Dufferin Communities in Bloom (CIB) volunteer, accepted a cheque from BOC member Lisa Pinkerton for $1,000.

This donation is ear-marked for a project that CIB is working on at the Friends and Family Playground in the north side of Carman, where there is no other such facility.

CIB beautifies the community and promotes social and economic wellness.

The Carman Secondary School Theatre Group also received a donation for $250.

BOC recognizes and supports the acting program for young people in Carman and area.

Susan Mooney, chairperson for Back on Cue, is an avid supporter of live theatre and recognizes that the success of the theatre group relates to the success of the community as a whole.
