Carman Cougars having strong start to basketball season

Date:

The Carman Cougars varsity boys’ basketball team is having a fantastic start to the season, as they are currently undefeated after beating the Morris Mavericks by an 84-47 score on Feb. 1.

The Cougars’ are now undefeated at 3-0 on the season, with a pair of regular season games to play before the team moves on to the Zone 4 playoffs.

“Our 2023-24 Varsity Boys Basketball team is small in numbers and has only two seniors, but we’re big on heart with every player bringing a unique talent to the court,” said Cougars’ coach Larisa Ens. “We rely on everyone to do their part, but when the game is on the line, watch out for Jack Bausman. His Grade 12 leadership and the ability to finish with a soft touch make him a clutch player who consistently delivers when it matters most.”

Ens notes that fellow grade 12 student Lee Gomez is also a force to be reckoned with in the paint.

“His commanding presence and remarkable court vision not only control the key but elevate our entire game.”

The varsity team is also thrilled to have former players Kevin Dunn and Nathan Warburton as assistant coaches, as their experiences bring a wealth of knowledge, and their dedication to shaping these young men extends beyond the game.

Coach Ens thinks this Cougars team has everything it takes to take home another Zone 4 title at the season’s end.

“We have the talent, size, and heart to make an impression at MHSAA Provincials this year; we just need to stay healthy enough to get there, as the bench is pretty empty.”

Carman’s junior varsity boys’ and girls’ teams are currently at a combined 0-6 start to the season, while the Cougars’ varsity girls’ team boasts a 3-2 record.
